CAIRO: Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for the New Media Sector Saad Al-Azmi affirmed on Thursday that selecting Kuwait as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025 is a culmination of the country’s rich legacy and pioneering role in the media scene. This came in a statement made by Al-Azmi to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) after heading a delegation from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information in a meeting of the joint committee concerned with developing the final vision for the proposed procedures, activities, and events for the celebration of selecting Kuwait as the Arab Media Capital for 2025, which was organized by the Arab League.

Al-Azmi affirmed that “this selection reflects Kuwait’s status as a beacon of culture and enlightenment and a platform that embraces creativity and innovators in the Arab world.” The meeting discussed and reviewed the preparatory plans and exchanged views on the events to be held during the year 2025. He explained that the preparations for hosting “Kuwait as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025” are ongoing under the directives of the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, the follow-up of the Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr Nasser Muhaisen, and coordination between the Ministry of Information, the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters, and other relevant bodies.

Al-Azmi explained that the higher committee that was formed under the chairmanship of Minister Al-Mutairi has begun work on developing an integrated vision to organize and promote cultural and media events in a manner that is consistent with the importance of this event and the status of Kuwait. For his part, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for the Radio Sector and head of the team preparing the file for ‘Kuwait, Capital of Arab Media 2025’ Dr. Yousef Al-Surai’a confirmed that the media activities accompanying the celebration will include seminars and media forums aimed at shedding light on Kuwait’s pioneering role in the field of Arab media.

Al-Surai’a confirmed that Kuwait is preparing to launch a series of media and cultural activities that will include theatrical and literary festivals, poetry evenings, various artistic performances, and historical exhibitions that reflect the ancient Arab heritage. He pointed to the pioneering role played by Kuwait in the cultural and media fields. — KUNA
