Kamala’s victory to

unite nation: Curry

SAN FRANCISCO: Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry reiterated his support for US presidential election hopeful Kamala Harris on Monday, saying the Democratic nominee could bring “hope and unity” to a divided nation. “Supporting her is an honor, a sophisticated leader that I expect and have confidence she can lead our country and provide hope, inspiration, and unity,” Curry said of Harris at the Warriors media day. “Obviously there’s a lot of tough conversations that need to be addressed in our country and a lot of progress needs to be made.” Curry said that Harris would bring a “level of decency and humanity” to the job. “First and foremost, is she going to run the entire country and be a leader for everybody?,” Curry said. “I feel like she checks that box. You’ve got to start there. That’s why I have confidence in her.” — AFP

Atletico Madrid

ban fan for life

MADRID: Atletico Madrid said on Monday they had permanently banned a fan for throwing objects onto the field during the weekend’s heated derby draw with Real Madrid. Sunday’s match at Atletico’s Estadio Metropolitano was halted for 15 minutes after home fans threw objects including lighters at Madrid players. “Our security department continues to work with the police to identify the rest of those involved, who will be permanently expelled as soon as they are located,” Atletico said. “The club’s firm conviction to eradicate any form of violence and our defense of the values of sport are unquestionable. We will continue to work with all our resources with the aim of eliminating this type of behavior.” — AFP
