Driving licenses valid for 3 years

KUWAIT: The validity of expats’ driving licenses has now been extended to three years instead of one year after issuance or renewal, the interior ministry’s traffic department announced on Sunday. Expats’ driving licenses are still only available on the Kuwait Mobile ID app, it said, noting they can be used without the need to print a physical card.

Army chief stresses preparedness

KUWAIT: Kuwaiti Army Chief-of-Staff Lt Gen Bandar Al-Muzain stressed on Sunday the importance of taking all necessary measures to enable army units to fully execute their tasks and duties. He highlighted the need to address and overcome any obstacles that may hinder the implementation of military plans, programs and strategies, while also focusing on ways to develop them. — KUNA

US strikes kill 37 in Syria

WASHINGTON: US forces conducted two separate strikes in Syria, killing 37 “terrorist operatives” including members of the Islamic State group and Al Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din, the military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said Sunday. A Sept 24 strike in northwest Syria killed nine “terrorist operatives,” including senior Hurras al-Din leader Marwan Bassam ‘Abd-al-Ra’uf, the US military said. A Sept 16 strike in central Syria targeted an IS training camp and killed at least 28 people, including four senior leaders, the statement said. — AFP

Bootleg alcohol kills 6 in Iran

TEHRAN: Six people have died of alcohol poisoning in northern Iran after consuming bootleg booze, state media in the Islamic republic reported Sunday. Official news agency IRNA said four people died in the northern province of Gilan. Sixteen others were hospitalized, including six in serious condition. In a similar incident, two people died in the neighboring Mazandaran province and three are hospitalized, IRNA said. — AFP
