KUWAIT: With the support of Kuwait Times, World Ambassadors for Resolutions Model United Nations (WARMUN) held its inaugural event at the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) to encourage and inspire youth to take part in addressing global challenges. WARMUN functioned as a platform for young leaders to develop critical thinking skills for shaping a better future.

During the event, Ghada Eltahir, the UN Secretary-General’s representative and Resident Coordinator to Kuwait, expressed her pride in the commitment of Kuwait’s youth, stating, “It is my greatest pleasure to stand before you today... celebrating the actions of Kuwait’s youth making a positive change in the world.” She highlighted: “The UN is here to support you, the youth, in taking the lead to create a better future.”

WARMUN’s agenda covered multiple global issues as the Security Council addressed “Stabilizing the Sudanese Conflict” and the General Assembly discussed “The Effects of the Digital World on Youth,” thus, tackling both international and domestic challenges. Delegates also touched upon diverse topics, including “Combating Arms Trafficking in the Black Market” in DISEC and “Securing Space Sustainability” in the UNOOSA committee, which allowed them to propose actionable solutions. In addition to the inclusion of domestic issues such as “Kuwait’s Visa Issues” in Majlis Al-Ummah emphasized the vital connection between global diplomacy and local concerns.

On his part, Secretary-General Hamza Ahmed Hagagy highlighted the role of Model United Nations in youth development. Hagagy said that it empowers young people to critically engage with global issues and fosters skills in diplomacy and collaboration. Fellow Secretary-General Yazid Hany Ramadan reinforced this message as he emphasized on perseverance in pursuing one’s dreams.

Retaj Khaled Elbasiouny, Deputy Secretary General, expressed gratitude to her team: “Hamza and Yazid are like my younger brothers,” she said. She also thanked team members like Ali Jaraq, Nourhan Sayed, Yahya Arafa, and several chairs and executives, including Yehia Abdelhady and Raef Rafik for their great efforts: “We transformed from three individuals on a Google Meet to standing on this stage today with a full team. Never give up on your dreams, no matter how long the journey takes.” Moreover, Maryam Abu Jubain, spoke passionately about the situation in Palestine, prompting meaningful discussions among delegates about human rights and justice.

The team thanked Kuwait Times, MUNKuwait, Sustainable Living KW, the Canadian Embassy in Kuwait, GUST, alongside, Fredz Chicks, Guaco, Cookiessaray, Reach Burgers, Flavour House, Linda’s Bakery, and Bill’s Lemonade, for their strong support to WARMUN, which improved event’s experience. Eltahir ended the event, advising: “Enjoy every moment of this journey. It is an opportunity to learn, forge lifelong friendships, and contribute to shaping the world for the better.” The core team—Hamza, Yazid, Retaj, and others—was praised for their tireless efforts, concluding the event with a shared sense of optimism for the future.
