Ministry denies taxation plan

KUWAIT: The ministry of finance on Monday categorically denied reports of a plan to impose taxes on wages, commodities or tickets, in addition to non-basic services and entertainment. “The ministry categorically denies what is being circulated of a plan to impose taxes,” it said in a statement.

Driving license service on Sahel

KUWAIT: The interior ministry announced that the service of obtaining a driving license for private drivers has been added to the Sahel application for government services from Monday.

Bahrain to free more prisoners

MANAMA: Bahrain’s interior ministry on Monday announced sentencing changes for hundreds of inmates in the state. Authorities gave the green light for “replacement of custodial sentences with an alternative sentence,” for 340 inmates, the ministry said, with 99 further prisoners allowed more lenient arrangements in custody under Bahrain’s “open prison program”. — AFP

Morocco floods kill 10

RABAT: Ten people died in Morocco at the weekend when floodwaters swept away a bus in the country’s south, authorities said. Initially, the authorities said heavy rainstorms in Tata province late Friday had claimed two lives and left 14 people missing. But since then, the bodies of eight others have been found and another 13 were rescued. Seven people are still missing. — AFP
