MANAMA: The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) in Manama announced on Sunday the opening of registration for the 10th batch of the United Nations University Professional Diploma in Integrated Water Resources Management for the academic year 2024-2025. Dean of the College of Education, Administrative and Technical Sciences, and Professor of Water Resources Management at the university, Dr Walid Zubari, said in a statement that the program, which is implemented over a period of ten months, aims to develop the capabilities of participants in the principles of modern water resources management and its applications.

It is based on an integrated approach to train specialists on the method of integrated water resources management. He explained that the program consists of 10 courses—equivalent to 250 hours—that are prepared by the University of Waterloo in Canada and developed at the Arabian Gulf University to adapt to the conditions of the Arab region with examples and case studies from the region.

He pointed out that the course covers all aspects related to technical, economic, social, and environmental water resources management and that holders of this certificate (with distinction) can directly enroll in the Master's program in Water Resources Management at the university. He pointed out that registration will remain open until the beginning of October. The program is designed for study; using the dual education method, which requires participants to attend the university for short periods of time at the beginning and end of the program, the students will take exams and sit with their supervisors.

The e-learning method will be used to implement the rest of the program, taking into account the circumstances of workers in the water sector whose work nature does not allow them to receive training and studies. He pointed out that the ten courses taught in the program. The program targets workers in the ministries and agencies concerned with traditional water (surface and groundwater sectors) and non-traditional water (desalinated water and wastewater sectors) in addition to water-related sectors such as agriculture, energy, industry, and the environment in Arab countries. - KUNA
