PARIS/KUWAIT: Faisal Sorour made history for Kuwait by winning the country’s first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Saturday. Competing in the men’s shot put - F63 event at the Stade de France on Saturday, Sorour’s powerful 15.31-meter throw secured him the top spot on the podium. In a statement to KUNA, Sorour expressed his joy and pride in securing this monumental win for Kuwait, attributing his success to years of tireless training and consistent support from the country’s sporting authorities. He dedicated his achievement to HH the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and the people of Kuwait.

The gold medal win marks Kuwait’s second medal in the 2024 Paralympic Games, following a bronze by Faisal Al-Rajhi in the men’s 5000m T54 race last week.

HH the Amir Sheikh Mishal sent on Sunday a cable of congratulations to Sorour for his gold medal. He praised this achievement and the ability of Kuwaiti disabled youth in overcoming hardships, and wished Sorour further success in various regional and international sporting events. HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah and HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah also sent cables of congratulations to Sorour.

Bader Nasser Al-Kharafi gifted Sorour a brand-new Volvo vehicle in recognition of his outstanding achievement. He had also gifted a Volvo car to Rajhi last week. Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi also lauded Sorour’s victory.
