KHARTOUM: The Direct Aid Society on Sunday began distributing food aid sufficient to 12,000 Sudanese families. The food aid will be distributed for 45 days as part of the Kuwaiti humanitarian aid campaign. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Sudan Dr. Fahad Al-Dhafiri, Red Sea State Governor Mustafa Mohammed Nour, Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Deputy Commissioner Osman Khojali, Red Sea State Deputy Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Al-Tom Bakhit, officials from the Direct Aid Organization’s office in Sudan, and a number of Sudanese media outlets.

Ambassador Fahad Al-Dhafiri told KUNA that the aid, which was launched for those affected by floods and torrents in the areas of Arbaat Dam and Tokar in the Red Sea State, will include the affected people throughout Sudan. The aid came after the second airlift of aid, which transported tons of food, shelter, medical aid, and ambulances via 12 aircraft and will be followed by the arrival of an aid ship from the Kuwait Relief Society in partnership with the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation.

The ship is carrying about 2,500 tons, which will arrive in late September. Al-Dhafiri said, “Kuwaiti aid to our brothers in Sudan continues by air and sea, in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and as an embodiment of the solidarity of the Kuwaiti people with our brothers in Sudan.”.

For his part, the Governor of the Red Sea State, Lieutenant General Mustafa Muhammad Nour, praised Kuwait’s support for the Sudanese people, noting that the state’s share of these baskets is for those affected by the collapse of the Arbaat and Tokar dams. He expressed the gratitude of Sudan and its people for the Kuwaiti humanitarian aid that came under the directives of the Kuwaiti leadership.

The Director of the Direct Aid Organization Office in Sudan, Dr Muzamil Omar Ahmed, explained that the convoy is one of the largest aids for those affected after the organization’s office resumed its work in Port Sudan, where all humanitarian, charitable, and development projects provided by the organization to the people of Sudan will be activated. He explained that the first phase of distributing aid will be in the Red Sea states of Kassala, Al-Qadarif, White Nile, North and South Kordofan, and the Nile River. — KUNA
