Power usage hits record

KUWAIT: Kuwait registered a new record for maximum electricity consumption at 17,640 MW, recorded at 2:00 pm Tuesday as the temperature reached 50 degrees Celsius, the ministry of electricity, water and renewable energy announced.

UAE seeks access to Durov

DUBAI: The UAE said Tuesday it had requested consular services for Telegram’s Pavel Durov after the Dubai-based tech boss was arrested in France over alleged failings to curb criminality on the app. “The UAE is closely following the case of its citizen Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, who was arrested by the French authorities in Paris–Le Bourget Airport,” the state’s foreign ministry said in a statement. — AFP

Zarif returns to Iran VP post

TEHRAN: Iran’s former foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Tuesday announced he was returning to his post as vice president to Masoud Pezeshkian after submitting his resignation earlier this month. “After the follow-ups and consultations conducted by the president and with his written order, I will continue to exercise my duties as Strategic Vice President,” Zarif said in a post on X. – AFP
