CAIRO: Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi said Tuesday that the Arab world has lost a prominent figure. Former Secretary General Dr Nabil Al-Arabi was known for his dedication to serving the Arabs and for his tangible contributions to strengthening joint Arab action. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Ambassador Al-Mutairi expressed his condolences to the family of the late Dr Nabil Al-Arabi, who passed away on Monday, asking God Almighty to accept the deceased with His vast mercy and to admit him to the highest heavens and to inspire his family and relatives with patience and solace.

Regarding his contributions during his tenure as Secretary General of the Arab League, Ambassador Al-Mutairi referred to the keenness shown by the deceased to support joint Arab action and belief in the Palestinian cause, which he defended. He praised the role Dr Nabil Al-Arabi played in mobilizing international support to issue a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice declaring the construction of the separation wall illegal and demanding its removal.

He also appreciated the role played by the deceased in resolving the crises that the Arab region went through during his tenure, relying on his legal background and belief in international law in dealing with crises and implementing United Nations resolutions in a way that serves Arab issues, recalling the virtues of the deceased in strengthening Arab cooperation with effective regional blocs. Egypt on Monday mourned its former Foreign Minister and former Secretary General of the Arab League, who passed away at the age of 89. The Arab League also mourned its former Secretary General. — AFP
