CAIRO: Kuwait’s national swimming team won gold and a bronze medal on Sunday on the first day of the 3rd Arab Water Sports Championship hosted by Cairo. Head of the team’s delegation and member of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Water Sports Federation Faisal Abu Al-Hassan told KUNA that swimmer Mohammad Zubaid won the gold medal in the 50m butterfly race (15-16 age group) with a time of 24.68 seconds, setting a new Arab record, while his teammate, swimmer Hamoud Al-Hamoud, won the bronze medal in the same race (13-14 age group) with a time of 27.80 seconds.

Abu Al-Hassan praised the players’ efforts to achieve distinguished accomplishments and climb the podiums, expecting the Kuwaiti team to achieve positive results in the championship, which will continue until next Wednesday.

He added that the third Arab Water Sports Championship in Cairo will be attended by the most prominent Arab swimmers from 17 countries, expressing his hope to achieve more victories to raise the name of Kuwait high in various international forums.

He stressed his determination to continue supporting Kuwaiti players and encouraging them to achieve more accomplishments that contribute to developing the game and raising the Kuwaiti flag on various platforms. The Kuwaiti swimming team delegation participating in the Arab Championship includes 27 swimmers (boys and girls) competing in three categories (13-14 years), (15-16 years) and (17- 18 years) in two morning and evening sessions at the (Swimming Pools Complex) in (Cairo International Stadium). — KUNA

The diving competitions in the championship are scheduled to begin tomorrow for the three categories (men), with the participation of the Kuwaiti team, including Jassim Al-Qallaf, Fadel Abbas, Abbas Qali, Ali Fahad and Abdul Karim Al-Sabaa. – KUNA
